Your Winter Weekend Guide to Grand Haven

Michiganders and tourists from around the world flock to Grand Haven during the summer months. While summer is a great time to visit, there are plenty of reasons to visit the city in the winter too. Read on to find out where to visit and what to do in Grand Haven this winter.

Outdoor Activities in Grand Haven

There are outdoor activities for anyone and everyone in Grand Haven! Here are a few of our favorites.

Mulligan’s Hollow

600 Mulligans Drive, Grand Haven, MI

If you enjoy skiing and snowboarding, then you will want to check out Mulligan’s Hollow. Skiers and snowboarders have six slopes to choose from as well as trails to explore. The slopes at the 7-acre park have lit slopes to allow for late-night fun.  

Hemlock Crossing

8115 W Olive Rd, West Olive, MI

Not one to hit the slopes? Try snowshoeing, cross country skiing or hiking at Hemlock Crossing. There are 6 miles of trails to explore with breathtaking views. Snowshoes are available to rent at the Nature Education Center. The park is also dog-friendly if your furry friend needs some exercise.  

Ice Fishing

Bundle up and enjoy some ice fishing at one of the many lakes in the Grand Haven area. Popular destinations for ice fishing include Bruce’s Bayou and Lloyd’s Bayou. Always make sure to check the ice thickness as a safety precaution before venturing out on the ice.

Grand Haven Lighthouse and Pier

The Grand Haven Lighthouse and Pier is also a popular destination in the winter. The red lighthouse stands out among the freezing water and is a sight to see! Winter is also a great time to take a stroll down the beach.

Places to Drink in Grand Haven

While Grand Rapids may be known as Beer City, USA, Grand Haven also has breweries to check out as well as great wine options.

Odd Side Ales

Stop in Odd Side Ale and taste one of the over 40 beers they have on tap. Their tap rotates regularly so you are bound to find something you like! You can pick up food at one of the many great restaurants in Grand Haven and enjoy it at Odd Side Ale!  

12 Corners Vineyards

41 Washington Ave #144, Grand Haven, MI

If you are not a beer drinker, right around the corner from Odd Side Ales is 12 Corners Vineyards. Enjoy some wine tasting to figure out which bottle you should purchase and take home with you!

Grand Armory Brewing Company

17 S 2nd Street, Grand Haven, MI

Grand Armory is a short walk from the beach with 20 taps to choose from. They have old fashion sodas and wine in addition to beer and ciders. The brewery is also located in a stunning historic facility.

Shopping in Grand Haven

Shopping is always a fun activity when it is too cold out and also a great way to have a souvenir from your trip!

Jingle Bell Parade

December 7th

You won’t want to miss out on welcoming Santa and Mrs. Clause to town. Enjoy the lit-up floats, costumes and more before the city lights their Christmas tree.

Pronto Pups

January 17th to January 19th

The famous Pronto Pups is open from early May to mid-September. But each winter, they for one weekend so you can get your corn dog fix! Check out their Facebook page as the weekend nears to get the hours.  

Winterfest

January 23rd to January 26th

Grand Haven puts on an annual Winterfest each year too! The event is packed with a cardboard sled race, ski and snowboard competition and so much more. Watch the Winterfest website for more details!
