What to Know About Detroit’s Fall Beer Festival

Aside from being known as the Great Lakes state and Detroit being the car capital of the world, in the past decade craft beer has been making its appearance known throughout Michigan. Home to more than 300 breweries, it’s safe to say that the craft beer scene will only continue to grow. If you’re a craft beer connoisseur and are always searching for new brews to try, Detroit’s Fall Beer Festival is calling your name and your taste buds. Here’s the quick and short version of what you need to know about the festival:

TICKETS: PURCHASE TICKETS HERE IN ADVANCE FOR FRIDAY $45 AND SATURDAY $50 (21+ EVENT)

About the Festival

Prepare yourself for this event as it’s considered Michigan’s largest beer tastings around! You will get the opportunity to sample nearly 1,000 craft beers represented by 131 Michigan breweries. WOAH! Along with getting your beer fix, you will also be able to enjoy food from some of Detroit’s best restaurants while listening to a talented line-up of music performances throughout both days of the event. If you don’t choose to eat at the event, you can bring in your own outside food and non-alcoholic beverages as well. This event is located in the heart of the city at Detroit’s Eastern Market.

With the purchase of a ticket, you will receive 15 drink tokens that can be redeemed for a 3oz. sample of beer of your choosing. However, some specialty brews may require 2 tokens rather than 1. If you run out of tokens and wish to keep sampling, there will be additional tokens available for .50 cents to purchase. If you decide to explore Detroit while you are here, feel free as it is permitted to leave the event and re-enter with a stamped hand. This gives you the freedom to enjoy the best craft beer in the state and explore the wonderful downtown area of Detroit!

Fall Craft Beers to Look for

With it finally being fall, a lot of Michigan breweries make specialty fall-inspired brews that can be found at this event. Below I will highlight some of the best fall brews and breweries that you should look for if you plan on attending this event.

Short’s Brewing – Pure Michigan Autumn IPA

Short’s Brewing has partnered with Pure Michigan to create a one-of-a-kind Autumn IPA that has been crafted with 100% Michigan ingredients. This purely Michigan beer is your standard India Pale Ale with a 5.60% ABV and 52 IBUs.

Atwater Brewery – Pumpkin Spice Latte

Nothing says fall like a pumpkin spice latte! Atwater Brewery has crafted the perfect Munich Dark malt infused with pumpkin spice and coffee extracts. This fall-inspired beer is an herb & spice beer with a 6.00% ABV and 28 IBUs.

Griffin Claw Brewing Company – Screamin’ Pumpkin

Griffin Claw Brewing creates the perfect fall amber ale that is lightly hopped and includes a wide range of spices from cinnamon to nutmeg. This autumn beer has a 5.00% ABV and 15 IBUs.

Frankenmuth Brewery – Oktoberfest Lager

Enjoy a true Oktoberfest Lager from Frankenmuth Brewery with German noble hops and four different malts to create this fall brew. This Märzen-style Oktoberfest Lager has a 5.27% ABV and 27 IBUs.

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales – Fuego del Otoño

Jolly Pumpkin has created a perfect Sour Saison called Fuego del Otoño which means “Autumn Fire”. This beer has wheat and chocolate malt tasting notes making it the perfect fall beer. This beer has a 5.80% ABV and 22 IBUs.
