Michigan is known for its beautiful and breathtaking beaches. They are the perfect place to escape for a weekend getaway. Sometimes going on a quick trip is hard if you have a pup you don’t want to leave behind. That’s why we compiled a list of dog-friendly beaches to help you plan a summer weekend vacation.
Eastern Michigan
Harrisville State Park – Harrisville
Take your dog to Lake Huron for the day or stay the night at Harrisville State Park. Pets are allowed along the north end of the camper’s beach. Pets are required to be on a six-foot or less leash at all times.
Tawas Point State Park – East Tawas
A fenced in stretch of the beach between the lighthouse and campground is pet-friendly. Enjoy some time at the campground and then take a walk to the lighthouse with your favorite pup. The water near the campground is shallow, making it the perfect place to allow your dog to swim.
Northern Michigan
Tannery Beach – Boyne City
At Tannery Beach, the dogs can splash around in the water and run around the beach. We guarantee that you’ll have one tired pup when you leave Tannery Beach.
Otsego Lake State Park – Gaylord
The dog-friendly shoreline at Otsego Lake State Park is only accessible via a flight of stairs so this beach is best for young pets. Dogs must be in control of their owner and on a leash that is 6 feet or less.
West Michigan
Buttersville Beach & Campground – Ludington
Bring the dogs and hot dogs. The beach has a picnic area with grills so you and your dogs can relax and enjoy some time in the water. Don’t forget your leash for your doggie.
Grand Haven City Beach – Grand Haven
As one of Michigan’s most popular beaches, it is very busy for both humans and dogs. Dogs are allowed at the south end of the beach, on leash.
Norman F Kruse Park – Muskegon
This beach has a marked area for the dogs to play. Dogs must be on a leash while in the sand but are free to roam at their leisure in the water.
