Breakfast to me is not just the most important meal of the day but it is also my favorite type of meal to eat. There is nothing like waking up to enjoy a delicious breakfast and a cup of coffee. Since I am a Lansing native, I have been around to a handful of breakfast places and know some pretty delicious spots. Here are four breakfast restaurants for all of the foodies in the Lansing area to try next.
Fleetwood Diner
Located on Cedar Street, is the “hippest little diner in the hippest Midwest towns” called Fleetwood Diner. I found out about this authentic diner about two years ago, but I wish that I knew of it a lot sooner. Not only does Fleetwood Diner consider itself the “hippest little diner” but it is also known for its famous Hippie Hash. Hippie Hash is a dish that contains hash browns mixed with various vegetables and feta cheese. My favorite dish to get at Fleetwood diner is the breakfast special. It is the basic breakfast combination that includes eggs, a choice of meat, hash browns, and toast. I would consider myself a true bacon lover, and Fleetwood Diner has the best bacon I have ever had. I love Fleetwood because I can get a satisfying breakfast with the best bacon for a decent price, whether it is 10 a.m. or 2 a.m. in the morning.
Flap Jack Restaurant
Flap Jack Restaurant has been one of my favorite breakfast spots ever since I was a kid. I would go there almost every Saturday morning with my dad and my sister until we became regulars there. Flap Jack specializes in being family friendly and filling you up. They are known for their famous Flap Jack pancakes that you can have any way you would like. My favorite dish to get there is their mini sausage skillet with pancakes. Their mini skillet has hash browns, cheese, eggs in whichever style you choose, and a choice between sausage and bacon, and you get to pick between pancakes or toast. Flap Jack is a comfortable and homey place to enjoy breakfast on a weekend morning.
Bruegger’s Bagels
Located in East Lansing on Grand River is Bruegger’s Bagels that serves authentic New York style bagels. They offer both breakfast and lunch sandwiches. My favorite thing about Bruegger’s Bagels is that you can take any kind of bagel and use it on any kind of sandwich on the menu. This means there are many ways to create a sandwich of any kind. If you are not in the mood for a full breakfast or lunch sandwich, then you can just stick to a bagel and cream cheese instead. My favorite thing to get there is the cinnamon raisin bagel with egg, bacon, and cheese.
Golden Harvest
Golden Harvest is by far the most popular and unique place to eat breakfast in the Lansing area. This is a unique spot because it is a smaller restaurant and they only accept cash for payments. You can expect a long line out the front of the door, but it is worth the wait. Golden Harvest serves breakfast dishes that people dream about. Their dishes are made from scratch and come loaded with toppings including delicious chocolates, whipped creams, and caramels. They have a list of specials that change daily, and a menu including popular dishes that they serve regularly. The food is worth the wait and it will definitely raise the bar of your breakfast expectations.
