Favorite Things to do in DeWitt, Michigan

Being raised in DeWitt, Michigan was a great experience for me. I can truly say that I enjoyed all aspects of living in this wonderful city. As a citizen of this suburban city for over 23 years, I have made a lot of wonderful memories. If you are thinking about making the move to DeWitt or just visiting for the day, here is a list of my favorite things to do in the city.

When the weather is nice a fun activity to do is to go canoeing or kayaking down the Looking Glass River. This river is about 71 miles long and runs through DeWitt, flowing into the Grand River in Portland, MI. Looking Glass River pic The Looking Glass River also has great fishing, and you can actually find some of the best fishing in the stretch that flows through DeWitt.

Downtown DeWitt has great little shops, salons, and food. This is my favorite part of DeWitt, because you can still see some of the historic homes and landmarks. If you ever do visit downtown DeWitt, make sure to stop at Sweetie-licious Bakery Café. It is a charming bakery that is known for their award winning homemade pies. scootpic22 They also sell desserts and lunch items as well. Linda Hundt, the owner, has been featured on the Food Network, the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and other media programming and newspapers.

Another one of my favorite DeWitt attractions is the DeWitt Farmers Market. The farmers market is on Tuesdays and it begins in June and runs through mid-Oct. You can find fresh produce, eggs, baked goods, flowers, and more! You can also enjoy the live music while you shop around.

One of my favorite fall memories was watching the high school football team every Friday night. DeWitt is a very supportive and close community, so it makes for a great atmosphere when everyone comes together and cheers on a sports team.

The DeWitt Ox Roast is a carnival that has been held in DeWitt for over 70 years. Every August, this carnival comes to town that provides carnival rides, food trucks, live music, fireworks, and food tents. It is held in Downtown DeWitt and is a great event that allows the community to come and enjoy the fun together. There is also a 4×4 soccer tournament that is held each year during the carnival weekend that allows almost every age group to compete for a trophy.

Over the years, I have watched DeWitt grow immensely. Whether it is a restaurant, store, kid activity, or neighborhood, there is always something new being developed in the town. The location of the city is great as well. You can get to almost any surrounding city within a 15-20 minute drive. It is also about an hour drive to either Grand Rapids or Detroit. Whether you are visiting or thinking moving to DeWitt, we hope to see you soon!
