Don’t watch the ball drop from your living room this year. Ring in 2018 by celebrating with friends and family at a New Year’s Eve event in your area. There are many celebrations happening across Michigan on December 31st to help everyone say goodbye to 2016 and welcome the new year.
Whether you have kids or are looking for somewhere exciting to celebrate all night, there’s an event for everyone. From kids’ celebrations to adult-only parties happening throughout the state, here’s how you can ring in the new year:
For Kids and Teenagers
Noon Year’s Eve
Where: Detroit Historical Museum
When: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
If you’ve got little ones that may not have the strength to make it to midnight on New Year’s Eve, the Detroit Historical Museum is holding a special annual event in the morning featuring craft tables, cookies and of course hot chocolate to stay warm. There will also be a special countdown to noon for kids. If you’re not in the Detroit area this holiday, be sure to check your local area events. Many children’s museums throughout Michigan hold annual “Noon Year’s” events for kids.
New Year’s Jump ‘n Jam
Where: All Pump It Up Locations (Metro Detroit)
When: 5:30 p.m. (end times vary based on location)
Price: Prices may vary depending on location (a pre-paid reservation is required; spots are limited)
If you’re in the Metro Detroit area and need something fun and active for your kids to do, all Pump It Up locations are hosting a special Jump ‘n Jam event for kids. This indoor inflatable playground has bouncy houses, slides and obstacle courses. The event will feature a kids-only balloon drop along with pizza and drinks included.
Kid’s New Year’s Eve Party
Where: Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, MI
When: 6:30 p.m. p.m. – 12:30 a.m.
Price: $40/child and $30/club member children (reservations required)
There’s plenty of kid-friendly things to do up north for New Year’s Eve. Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hosts an age-appropriate party for ages 6-12 to partake in activities at the Health Club, including swimming, crafts, games and more. Pizza will also be provided. If you have children ages 0-5, the Club House daycare at the resort also has a kid’s New Year’s Eve party at the same time for $8.50 per child per hour. Advanced registration is required for daycare by December 15th.
New Year’s Eve All You Can Play
Where: All Zap Zone Locations in Michigan
When: 10 – 2 a.m.

Whether you’re in Mid-Michigan or the Detroit area, teenagers and families with older kids will love this interactive New Year’s event. Happening at all Zap Zones across Michigan, guests can partake in unlimited play all night (arcade games, glo-golf, mini bowling, special laser tag games and more). With a balloon drop at midnight, this is an exciting way for kids to get out and ring in 2018.
New Year’s Eve at Laurel Manor
Where: Laurel Manor Banquet & Conference Center in Livonia, MI
When: 7 p.m. – 1 a.m.
This elaborate event in Livonia, Michigan is for those who want to experience an elegant New Year’s Eve celebration. For $100 per entry (21 and older), guests can enjoy live entertainment, a premium bar, hors-d’oeuvres and dishes like filet mignon. Vegetarian options will also be available. Guests can also enjoy midnight champagne.
Where: The Entertainment District in Kalamazoo, MI
When: 6 p.m. – 4 a.m.
Price: Varies based on admission package ($15-$85)
New Year’s Eve is huge in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Each year it’s bigger than the last. Kalamazoo brings Times Square to its unique Entertainment District located downtown. Seven venues partake in this special event, including a dueling piano bar, a ’90s dance bar and more. Guests will be able to take advantage of live comedy, dining, late snack bars and much more. Soaring Eagle’s New Year’s Eve Celebration
Where: Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant, MI
When: Doors open at 9 p.m.
Price: $60/person or $100/couple
Celebrate 2018 at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort. This event will feature live music, dancing, hors-d’oeuvres, cash bars and champagne at midnight. There will also be exclusive prize drawings. Guests must be 18 or older to attend this event. Prior to the event, guests can purchase additional tickets ($200/person) for a 4-course dinner in the Grand Ballroom beginning at 5:30 p.m.
